1979 Tudor Submariner 'Snowflake' Ref. 94010

Tudor began being manufactured under Rolex in 1946. Early on, the French Navy equipped its divers (plongeurs de bord) with Tudor Submariners. The first Tudors were purchased by the M.N. (Marine Nationale) in the late 60's. This model seemed to meet army specifications for Commando Marines. The Tudor 'Snowflake' Submariner (non-date model; either 7016 or 9401/0) is characteristically unique versus its cousin: the Rolex 5513. With much of the same features and, of course, the same parent company. Both are icons in the vintage watch world and highly sought after by collectors around the world.

This present example dates to 1979 and it remains in an outstanding condition. The dial is completely perfect (any scratch or spot you might see in the pictures is on the plexiglass and can be easily buffed out) showing a nice patina on the hour markers contrasting with the black matte dial. The nickname “Snowflake” pays tribute to the shape of the hour markers.

 

The bezel insert also remains in great condition.

 

The case of the example offered to you here remains in unpolished condition, preserving the original bezels with very sharp edges, showing little signs of wear. The case back also remains unpolished with all engraving visible.

 

It comes suited on its original Rolex Oyster 9315 stainless steel bracelet with 380 end links and clasp code C (1978).

 

The service history is unknown, but the watch is running great and keeping good time.
