Unpolished 1979 Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 'Maxi Dial' MK II

The Rolex Submariner 5513 was introduced in 1962 with no COSC printing on the dial (different from the 5512) and was the perfect tool watch for professional divers. First with the caliber 1530 and then, during the same year, with the caliber 1520 and updated crown-guard design.

 

The last series of matte dials that Rolex used in the Submariners are known by collectors as the Maxi Dials. The characteristic of these dials are the oversized lume plots for better visibility.

This example dates to 1979 and features a beautiful and untouched MK 2 black matte dial. The lume plots have aged to a lovely creamy patina. The hands remain also untouched, showing the pass of the years through them and giving the watch so much character.

 

The original bezel insert is in very good condition, giving it a distinctive look.

 

The fat 40mm stainless steel case is in original unpolished condition with sharp bevels.

 

The original T19 domed crystal makes the dial look even bigger.

 

This condition is truly difficult to find nowadays. Coming directly from the first owner, this example offered here is a drawer find in collectors’ condition that must not be missed. Otherwise it will be missed forever.

 

The watch is running good and keeping time, although service history is unknown.

 

It comes suited on the correct 20mm Rolex Oyster 93150 stainless steel bracelet with 580 end links and diver’s extension.
