Offered for sale here is a Rolex Datejust Ref. 1601 two-tone with a lovely, very rare, and very sought-after sunburst taupe ‘Ghost’ 'Havana' dial and ‘Wide Boy’ configuration which dates to 1971.
The sunburst dial features ‘Wide Boy’ markers, nicknamed like this is after the wider hour markers, with tritium stripes and intact lume plots that have aged to a sandy hue matching completely. The dial features a beautiful taupe hue and remains completely flawless and clean. The gilt printings are clean and bright, and they completely fade into the dial under certain light, as if they disappear or dissolve in it, hence the nickname ‘Ghost’. The original ‘Wide Boy’ hands present a perfectly matching patina.
The stainless steel case remains in good condition, preserved thick, and showing normal signs from use. The case back remains in the same condition. The 18k yellow gold bezel remains crisp, letting show some normal marks from wear and age, as well as a beautiful patina.
It is suited on a Rolex Jubilee 6251H folded links stainless steel bracelet with 55 end links and clasp dated 2/70 that presents normal wear and stretch for its age.
The original acrylic crystal has some very minor marks that could be easily buffed away.
It is running well and keeping time, although service history is unknown.
This is indeed a great opportunity to catch a Datejust with stunning ‘Wide Boy’ and ‘Ghost’ dial in exceptional condition as these are being caught by savvy collectors and remain in their collections.
Macros of dial and case are available under request.
