2002 Rolex GMT-Master II Ref. 16710 Full Set with two extra inserts and Rubber B

The GMT Master II 16710 was released by Rolex in 1989 and was initially on sale alongside the slightly cheaper Rolex GMT Master 16700. The Rolex GMT Master II 16710 evolved throughout its production until it was finally replaced by the Rolex GMT Master II 116710 in 2007. All versions of the now iconic Rolex GMT Master II 16710 featured a black dial, red GMT hand and it was the only GMT available with either Blue/Red "Pepsi", Red/Black "Coke", or all black bezel inserts. The Ref. 16700 was only available with either “Pepsi” or “all black” inserts, while the 16760 came only with a “Coke” insert, making the 16710 the most versatile one.

 

Another feature in the history of the 16710 is that around 2003 the cases were replaced by the more modern, non-pinhole ones, so this 2002 Ref. 16710 is one of the last ones to feature the pin-hole case design, having a reminiscence to vintage.

The 16710 offered for sale here offer the possibility of a 6 in 1 combination as it comes with three insert options and two strap possibilities.

 

It features a flawless black glossy dial with luminova hour markers and hands.

 

The pinhole stainless steel case remains thick and sharp, preserving factory finishes and remaining most probably unpolished, featuring pronounced bevels as of the period, and letting visible some normal signs of wear. The case back remains in the same condition.

 

The fitted fat, Serif font “Coke” bezel insert is in mint condition, almost perfect. Also included are the two other insert options; a faded to pink “Pepsi” insert with some signs of wear but beautifully aged, and an excellently shaped “all black” insert.

 

The sapphire crystal is clean with no marks.

 

The watch is running great and keeping time, although service history is unknown.

 

It comes suited on the original 20mm Rolex Oyster 78790 A stainless steel bracelet with 801 end links and clasp code DT11 with 11 links that shows little to no stretch. Included also is an original 20mm Rubber B black strap in unworn condition valued at 200€.

 

Furthermore, it is presented as a very complete set which includes outer box, inner box, hang tags, including the serial and price hang tag that shows that this watch was originally retailed for 6,087 $, manuals, wallet, and punched guarantee papers showing it was sold in Singapore in December 2002, probably as a nice Christmas gift.
