1991 Rolex Submariner 'No Date' Ref. 14060 'Heavy patina' Full Set

The new vintage. The purest of them all. The Submariner icon. Rolex’s icon. There’s no wonder why the Rolex Submariner Ref. 14060 has become a sough-after watch for most watch appreciators.

 

Before Rolex introduced the ceramic 114060 in 2012, there was a time where things were made right. This time was when the 14060 was born.

 

Originally born in 1990, it was the successor to the legendary 5513 (introduced in 1962). In 1998, slight changes to the movement created the 3130 movements and gave it the “M” designation. In 2007, the 14060M became a certified chronometer which added 2 extra lines to the text.

 

The 14060 has a lot that evokes the spirit of the original Sub from 1954; it was the last sport model to feature drilled through lug holes, a stamped bracelet clasp, stamped end links, and an aluminum bezel insert. All hallmarks of the original.

The example presented here is in flawless condition. The black glossy dial is perfect, with no blemishes, spotting or stains contrasting perfectly with the applied indices. The tritium lume has aged to a beautiful heavy cream color. As normally seen on these, the hands have aged to a lighter tone.  It features a 2-liner no date dial, just as the original Subs from the early 50s. The unidirectional bezel is also original, period correct and mint, featuring a matching patina tritium pearl.

 

The stainless-steel case is preserved in very good condition showing sharp chamfers and only minor wear marks. The case back is also excellent.

 

It is running well and keeping time, although service history is unknown.

 

It comes suited on the original 20mm Rolex Oyster 93150 stainless-steel bracelet with 501B end links and correct clasp code R9. It is preserved in great condition with hardly any stretch at all.

 

This one is presented as a full set which includes outer and inner boxes, manuals, wallet, translation booklet, calendar, hang tag and original stamped guarantee papers showing it was sold by a Spanish jeweler, country where we bought it from first owner, back in 1993.
