1979 unpolished Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 'Maxi dial MK 2'

The Rolex Submariner 5513 was introduced in 1962 with no COSC printing on the dial (different from the 5512) and was the perfect tool watch for professional divers. First with the caliber 1530 and then, during the same year, with the caliber 1520 and updated crown-guard design.  

The last series of matte dials that Rolex used in the Submariners are known by collectors as the Maxi Dials. The characteristic of these dials are the oversized lume plots for better visibility.

This particular example dates back to 1979. It features a beautiful, perfect (no stains, no spots, no marks) and untouched Maxi MK II black matte dial. The lume plots have aged to a lovely creamy patina. The hands remain also untouched, aging to a slightly darker tone as commonly seen. The bezel inlay is in very good condition with minor marks, presenting a very nice deep petrol blue hue. The 40mm stainless steel case shows original chamfer lines and remains fat and unpolished. The original domed crystal makes the dial look even bigger.

The watch is running good and keeping time, although service history is unknown.

It comes suited on the correct 20mm Rolex Oyster 93150 stainless steel bracelet with 580 endlinks and divers extension and date stamped VD (1979).

This condition is truly difficult to find nowadays. Coming directly from the first owner, this example offered here is a drawer find in collectors’ condition that must not be missed. Otherwise it will be missed forever.
