This example dates to 1978 and it features a Maxi MK 3 black matte dial, also nicknamed ‘Lollipop’ as in this version the lume plots are almost touching the minute track making them look like a lollipop with the stick and the gum. This variation of the maxi dial is one of the rarest and most sough-after by collectors and are quite difficult to see surfacing the market in this condition.
The dial shows some normal wear and the lume plots have aged to a lovely creamy patina and match perfectly with the original hands.
The original bezel insert with is great too, showing some normal signs of wear and featuring an original pearl has also aged to a matching patina.
The previously polished case remains thick, with enough material for a good refurbishing job if desired. It shows some normal marks from wear. The case back is in the same condition.
The domed crystal makes the lume plots look even bigger, like egg-shaped. It has some minor scratches that could be easily buffed away and some light dust spotting on the inner face that could be blown away too.
The watch is running well and keeping time, although service history is unknown.
It comes suited on the original 20mm Rolex Oyster 93150 stainless steel bracelet with 580 end links, clasp code O8 and divers’ extension that shows normal wear and stretch for its age.
Macros of dial an case, as well as inner case back and movement pictures are available under request.
