1978 Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 Maxi Dial MK3 'Lollipop'

The Rolex Submariner 5513 was introduced in 1962 with no COSC printing on the dial (different from the 5512) and was the perfect tool watch for professional divers. First with the caliber 1530 and then, during the same year, with the caliber 1520 and updated crown-guard design.  

The last series of matte dials that Rolex used in the Submariners are known by collectors as the Maxi Dials. The characteristic of these dials are the oversized lume plots for better visibility.

This example dates to 1978. It features a beautiful and untouched Maxi MK 3 black matte dial. The lume plots have aged to a lovely creamy patina. The hands remain also untouched, aging to a matching tone. The bezel inlay has some marks of wear. The 40mm stainless steel case remains thick although it has been previously polished. The original domed crystal makes the lume plot look even bigger.

The watch is running good and keeping time, although service history is unknown.
