1978 Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680 with 2018 Rolex Service papers

The Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 was the first in Submariner’s history to feature a date and, to ease the reading, the “cyclops” lens on the acrylic crystal, allowing for a 2.5x magnification.

 

Rolex introduced the Submariner 1680 in 1967 and continued to manufacture the reference until about 1980. However, the “Red” Submariner with its characteristic red name on the dial was only produced for the first part of the ref. 1680’s production run, until approximately 1976. The Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680 ‘white’ was then born, with a production period from 1976/77 to 1979 only.

Offered for sale here is an honest Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680 ‘white’ from 1978.

 

The dial under the scratched crystal remains in great shape, with very little aging. The tritium has developed a beautiful creamy patina, remaining clean and matching with the hands.

 

The bezel insert is preserved in great shape with no visible dents or scratches.

 

The stainless steel case is very strong, featuring thick lugs. The case back remains in the same condition.

 

The original acrylic crystal is scratched and presents a minor cheap on the upper right corner that is no big deal. It could be easily buffed if wanted.

 

It comes suited on the original 20mm Rolex Oyster 93150 stainless steel bracelet with 580 end links with clasp code LT3 and divers’ extension that shows stretch and wear.

 

It is in full working order as it was serviced by Rolex in 2018 as shown on the Rolex Service Centre guarantee card.

 

The watch comes with the Rolex service manual, Rolex Service Centre guarantee card and even the original service receipt that shows the parts included in the service.
