1974 Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680 'Red Letter' MK VI

The Rolex Red Submariner was produced from roughly 1969 to 1974. Aside from the red font that drives collectors batty, it is truly notable for one thing: it is the first Submariner with a date.

Offered for sale is a beautiful example of the latest batch of Red Subs; the MK 6.

 

The awesome patina on the lume plots, along with the perfectly matching patina on the hands, contrast with the mint black matte dial. The red accent on the Submariner printing gives it a distinctive look making this dial just stunning.

 

Not only the dial of this example makes it special, but the original insert has aged into a nice, faded manner with matching tritium pearl.

 

But there is more to add, the case remains thick, showing some signs of polishing.

 

It comes suited on the original 20mm Rolex Oyster 9315 stainless-steel bracelet with 280 end links and clasp code 2/72.
