The watch offered for sale here Is a Rolex Datejust Ref. 1601 from 1973 with a very peculiar dial.
It features a unique aging to the originally black dial, having developed what we would describe as a ‘lunar’ patina for its resemblance to Planet Mars’ surface topography and color. The gilt printings remain well present, all visible with no misprints. The amazing and rare hour markers have a luminous tritium stripe that present a creamy patina hue, matching with that remaining on the hands.
The stainless steel case remains in good condition, showing signs of wear. The case back is in the same condition. The white gold bezel also remains in good shape with some visible wear. Inner case back is signed 16000.
The original acrylic crystal has some minor scratches that could be easily buffed away.
The Rolex automatic cal. 1560 is running well and keeping time, as it has been fully serviced in February 2024.
It is suited on the original Rolex Jubilee 6251H stainless steel bracelet with 55 end links that shows stretch common to this type of bracelet and coherent with its age. It will fit from a 16cm wrist up to an 18cm one.
Macros of dial and case are available under request, as well as service pictures.
