1971 Rolex Submariner 5513 'Non-Serif' with 'Kissing 40' insert

The Rolex Submariner 5513 was introduced in 1962 with no COSC printing on the dial (different from the 5512) and was the perfect tool watch for professional divers. First with the caliber 1530 and then, during the same year, with the caliber 1520 and updated crown-guard design. The Serif 5513 is nicknamed after the serif fonts visible on the 3-, 6- and 9-hour markers on the dial.

This example offered here for sale dates to 1971. It features a perfect black matte dial with creamy yellow patina lume hour markers and matching hands. The original bezel insert is a very rare version and sought-after collectors; the ‘Kissing 40’. This nickname was given to these super fat fonts insert which have the 4 and the 0 touching themselves. Added to the rarity of the insert, the condition is also amazing, having aged to a faded blue hue. The 40mm stainless steel case has been previously polished and shows normal wear. The original domed crystal is in great shape too, presenting minor scratches that could be easily buffed away.

It comes suited on the original 20mm Rolex 7206 riveted bracelet with 58 end links and date stamped 2/69.
