1971 Rolex Daytona Ref. 6262 ‘Tropical dial’

The Rolex Daytona reference 6262 is one of Rolex’s most rare watches, produced only for one year between 1970 and 1971. The 6262 was a transitional model, offering a combination of early solutions and modern technologies of the time.

The 6262 didn’t do well on the Boutiques back in the early 70s and was soon replaced. Fact that makes it so sough-after nowadays.

The 6262 features a water-resistant case, not being Rolex’s Oyster case. It also featured a Valjoux 727 movement, being this a modified version of the 72 with a raised frequency from 18,000 vph to 21,600 vph. It preservers the push buttons of its elder brother, then replaced by the screw-in waterproof pushers. The aluminum bezel was also preserved in this reference, being replaced after by an acrylic inlay.

The dial of this 6262 is in wonderful condition, showing a silver sunburst background that contrasts with the original tropical sub-registers that have turned into a beautiful caramel color. The case of this example is also in great shape, showing some marks of normal wear. The case back also appears with some marks of normal wear and use, and it is correctly signed 6239 on the inner part.

The movement has seen a 1000€ full service in December 19 and it is running to the second. A copy of the original invoice from the watchmaker will be added with the sale.

The original bracelet is also in great shape, with 12 links a little stretch.

This is indeed a great opportunity to own a very rare Rolex Daytona with a very sough-after tropical dial.
