Offered for sale is an extremely beautiful example of one of the very first batches of the Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 ‘Red Letter’; a ‘Meters First’ MK 2 dial.
The dial just speaks for itself; it has aged to a tropical (caramel when under the sunlight) tone evenly spread throughout the surface. The condition of the dial is just awesome, flawless in every part with no blemishes, stains, or marks. It shows a darker, chocolate tone in indoor light and a warm, caramel when exposed to sunlight. The hour markers have aged to a charming patina which perfectly match the hands, giving a balanced contrast with the tropical brown and the red accent on the Submariner printing, giving this piece a unique look.
The case has been previously polished but remains thick and honest with no mayor dents or scratches.
The original fat font ‘kissing 40’ bezel insert is also stunning. It has also aged in a lovely way, letting show a faded gray/blue-ish hue. The original tritium pearl shows a nice patina too.
It comes suited on a 20mm handmade leather strap and stainless-steel buckle where the stitching is matching the patina of the hour markers.
The watch is running great and keeping time although service history is unknown.
This is indeed a great opportunity to own one of the best tropical dials out there.
Plenty of pictures, macros, and videos are available under request.
