Offered for sale here is a Rolex Datejust Ref. 1601 with a lovely, rare, and very sought-after satin gray ‘Ghost’ dial which dates to 1969.
The matte, satin gray ‘Ghost’ dial, nicknamed like this as the white dial printings “disappear” like dissolving with the light gray background under certain angles, is preserved in stunning condition, showing very little wear and only some minor marks near the center post. The lume plots remain intact and feature a lovely sandy patina hue that matches with that on the original hands.
The stainless steel case remains in good condition, preserved thick, and showing normal signs from use. The case back remains in the same condition. The 18k white gold bezel remains crisp, letting show some normal marks from wear and age.
It is suited on its original Rolex Jubilee 6251H folded links stainless steel bracelet with 55 end links and clasp dated 2/71 that presents normal wear and stretch for its age.
The original acrylic crystal has some minor marks that could be easily buffed away.
It is running well and keeping time, although service history is unknown.
This is indeed a great opportunity to catch a Datejust with stunning ‘Ghost’ dial as these are being caught by savvy collectors and remain in their collections.
Macros of dial and case are available under request.
