2021 Rolex Explorer 36 Ref. 124270 Unpolished Full Set

The Rolex Explorer is the brand’s most understated sports watch, often flying under the radar. However, with its rich history and very wearable look, the Explorer is a Rolex watch that should not be overlooked, and it is getting much appreciation by the watch community – see these Refs. 1016 for the Explorer I and the Refs. 1655 for the Explorer II. The Explorer’s official story famously takes shape with Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s pioneering ascent to Mount Everest in 1953.

 

Whilst the previous Explorer was 39mm, the current Explorer 124270 has made a welcome return to the 36mm Oyster case that’s been traditionally used for the model. Contrary to popular belief, the case is made from 904L steel, not unobtanium. Rolex uses 904L steel because it is more corrosion-resistant and takes on a better shine when polished compared to the more commonly used 316L steel.

 

Inside the Explorer 124270 is the Rolex calibre 3230 automatic movement. This 31-jewel movement was introduced in 2020 and features the latest technology Rolex has to offer. Such features include Rolex’s patented Chronergy escapement, Paraflex shock absorbers, and a Parachrom hairspring.

The watch offered for sale here is in original condition showing little signs of wear.

 

The glossy dial is flawless with no stains or blemishes. The white Chromalight lume glows bright blue in the dark.

 

The case remains unpolished and with no mayor dents or marks from wear.

 

The bracelet is found in the same condition, with little signs of wear and preserving a tight stretch.

 

It is running well and keeping time, although service history is unknown.

 

It is presented as a full set which includes outer box, inner box, manuals, hang tags, wallet and guarantee card that shows it was purchased in September 2021 for 9700$.
