The new vintage. The purest of them all. The Submariner icon. Rolex’s icon. There’s no wonder why the Rolex Submariner Ref. 14060 has become a sough-after watch for most watch appreciators.
Before Rolex introduced the ceramic 114060 in 2012, there was a time where things were made better. This time was when the 14060 and the further modified 14060M were born.
Originally born in 1990 as the Rolex Submariner 14060, it was the successor to the legendary 5513 (introduced in 1962). In 1998, slight changes to the movement created the 3130 caliber and gave it the “M” designation. First were the non-certified chronometers, also known as 2-Liners (two lines), until 2007 when the 14060M became a Certified Chronometer which added 2 extra lines to the text or also known as the 4-Liners (four lines). The 14060M has a lot that evokes the spirit of the original Sub from 1954; it was the last sport model to feature drilled through lug holes, a stamped bracelet clasp, stamped end links, and an aluminum bezel insert. All hallmarks of the original.
The example offered for sale here is a Ref. 14060M which was part of the very last batches of the ‘2-Liner’, dating to 2007.
The black glossy dial is perfect, with no blemishes, spotting, or stains. Featuring a 2-liner no date dial, it evokes the original Subs from the early 50s. To us, the 2-Liner is the most beautiful against the 4-Liner, as it preserves vintage lines and remains cleaner with less text, more symmetrical and balanced.
The 40mm stainless steel case remains in great condition, preserved sharp, thick and with original bezels, remaining most probably unpolished and showing only minor signs of wear. The case back remains in the same condition.
The unidirectional bezel is also in great shape, with hardly any signs of wear.
It comes suited on the original 20mm Rolex Oyster 93150 stainless steel bracelet with 501B end links, AB10 clasp code and divers extension that also remains in great condition, letting visible only light signs of use, and with very little stretch.
It is running great and keeping time, although service history is unknown.
It is presented as a full set which includes original box, wallet, manuals, and stamped guarantee papers showing it was sold by a Japanese retailer in the early 2007.
Indeed, a beautiful watch with sporty yet classy looks perfect for any time and that will certainly keep seeing an increase in value over the next few years.
Macros of the case are available under request.
