Omega Speedmaster Ref. 145.022-68 'Transitional'

The word ‘Transitional’ in Speedmasters  is used to describe this specific reference. It is the transition between the 145.012 and the painted logo dial, 145.022-69. Other models are also called, wrongly, ‘Transitional’ but this is the one and only. And it is hell rare.

The dial features an applied metal Omega logo, long indices, perfect black matte color background with a soft and evenly spread brown dotting which is turning it tropical (more appreciated under the correct sunlight) and a gorgeous pumpkin lume hour markers matching with that on the spear end chrono hand. The original DON (Dot Over Ninety) bezel is in near mint condition and it will reach already nearly half of the asking on its own on auction.

The case has seen a soft polishing with cloth but remains very thick. The inner part of the case back where the Seahorse is remains unpolished making it still clearly visible. It is correctly engraved on the inner case back. With correct low serial number (must be between 26 and 27 million), this piece was manufactured in 1968 and was delivered to Spain (where we bought it off from the first owner) the 18th February 1969 as stated on the Extract From the Archives. The cal. 861 has been fully serviced by our watchmaker and it is running strong and keeping time.

It is suited on a handmade leather strap that matches perfectly with the pumpkin patina on the hour markers of the dial.

This is indeed a great opportunity to own a rare ‘Transitional’ reference in outstanding condition that marks the Speedmaster history.
