1958 Omega Ranchero 2990-1 'cream dial and pumpkin patina'

OMEGA launched the Ranchero watch in 1958 and it features many similar characteristics to the Speedmaster (CK2915), Railmaster (CK2914), and Seamaster (CK2913), most notably the Broad Arrow hands and black matte dial (there were also white dial versions like this one presented here, which are even rarer to source). Produced during 1957 and 1958, it is said that this model did not go over well in Spanish speaking countries because the translation of Ranchero is “ranch hand” and many potential customers were not intrigued by this. As for this, Omega stopped production on 1958 and for 1959 all examples were sold. These very few examples that survived are increasingly being hunted down by astute collectors.

This particular example we have here is in flawless condition. The white dial has aged beautifully to a creamy color, as well as the radium markers on it that have acquired a strong pumpkin tone, giving this piece so much character. The original broad arrow hands have radium too, that matches perfectly with that on the dial. The thin stainless steel case remains thick and at 36mm it wears perfectly on any writs giving it a distinctive look. The case back has some light marks due to normal wear but remains in very good shape too. It is mounted on a correct 16 million serial cal. 267 that is running strong and keeping time, although service history is unknown.

According to the Extract of Archives from OMEGA MUSEUM included in the sale, the present watch was delivered to Chile - a Spanish speaking country - on November 3rd, 1958. A true “Ranchero”.
