Rolex MK2 'Long 5' Fat Font bezel insert faded pre-tropical

The key to tell that this bezel insert is the so-called MK 2 ‘Long 5’ is on the 50 marker. It is the interior of the five that is elongated vertically rather than in the MK3 ‘Hooked 5’ which is more squared. The fonts of this variation are without pronounced Serifs and there are different versions which can have an increased fatness, up to touch each other.

This variation is seen on 60s watches, so it will perfectly fit the Rolex ‘gilt’ era dials and early matte dials. For example, it could be fitted on 5513 or 5512 gilt Submariners, as well as on 1680 ‘Red’ Subs.

We can differentiate two versions of the MK II ‘Long Five’: a first version (MK1) with ‘curvy’ font like this one, and a second version (MK2) with ‘straight’ font. But that’s just for the purists.

This insert is highly desirable for all vintage submariners.

The bezel offered for sale here is a MK2 ‘Long 5’ Fat Font in lovely, original condition as it features a naturally faded to pre-tropical/brown-ish/copper-ish hue. The black back remains unfaded, being this the clue in telling that the aging of this insert is natural and not deliberate.
