1990 Rolex Submariner ‘No Date’ Ref. 14060 with heavy patina and blue'd insert

The new vintage. The purest of them all. The Submariner icon. Rolex’s icon. There’s no wonder why the Rolex Submariner Ref. 14060 has become a sough-after watch for most watch appreciators.

 

Before Rolex introduced the ceramic 114060 in 2012, there was a time where things were made right. This time was when the 14060 was born.

 

Originally born in 1990, it was the successor to the legendary 5513 (introduced in 1962). In 1998, slight changes to the movement created the 3130 movements and gave it the “M” designation. In 2007, the 14060M became a certified chronometer which added 2 extra lines to the text.

 

The 14060 has a lot that evokes the spirit of the original Sub from 1954; it was the last sport model to feature drilled through lug holes, a stamped bracelet clasp, stamped end links, a two-liner dial and an aluminum bezel insert. All hallmarks of the original.

The example offered here is a Rolex Submariner Ref. 14060 from 1990.

 

The black glossy dial is stunning, showing some light aging and a stunning heavy, mustard patina on the hour markers and matching hands.

 

The previously polished stainless steel case is in great condition, with only some minor signs of wear. The case back remains in the same condition.

 

The original insert has aged to a very cool petrol blue hue and still preserves the original pearl/pip that has aged to a matching patina.

 

It is running well and keeping time, as it has been recently serviced.

 

It comes suited on the original 20mm Rolex Oyster 93150 stainless-steel bracelet with 501B end links and correct clasp code 011 that remains in great shape, showing only minor signs of use and with hardly any stretch at all.

 

Indeed, a beautiful watch with sporty yet classy looks perfect for any time.
